Small wind / Buyer questions
Purchasing and delivery
What should be checked before moving stored wind equipment to another warehouse?
The short answer
Before relocating stored equipment, review whether the new warehouse can maintain the required environment, preservation, security and handling arrangements. Transfer the inventory and condition records with custody. A change of address is also a change in storage exposure and responsibility, so the original preservation plan should be checked against the new facility rather than assumed to continue unchanged.
Compare the two storage arrangements
Identify the equipment and packaging states, supplier requirements and the expected duration at the new location. Ask about protection from weather, floor and support arrangements, access control and the ability to complete specified inspections. Note any limitations that require another preservation method. Do not assume that an indoor warehouse automatically meets all equipment requirements. The assessment must address the actual items, including anything already unpacked, quarantined or awaiting a supplier decision.
Plan the movement and handover
Use competent handling personnel with the current package or component instructions. Reconcile the inventory before movement and record dispatch condition. Agree who restores protection if the transfer disturbs barriers or supports. At the receiving warehouse, confirm package identities, observed condition and the assigned storage locations. Preserve any discrepancy rather than overwriting the old condition record. If equipment is split between facilities, update the register so future service or installation teams can locate the relevant components and documents.
Restart control under named responsibility
Assign the new custodian, inspection tasks, exception reporting route and planned release authority. Carry forward open defects and missed-preservation issues from the previous location. Keep both periods in the asset history with their dates and observations. A successful relocation leaves every item in a known storage state with an accountable owner. It does not erase earlier exposure or establish that a component is installation-ready merely because the receiving warehouse accepted the package into its stock system.
