Small Wind Turbine Maintenance Planning Guide
Maintenance planning begins with the installed configuration and its service instructions. Organise the inspection records, access requirements and responsibilities needed to keep changes in condition traceable throughout operation.
Keep condition and configuration traceable.
Applicable instructions and useful records make the service discussion more precise.
01 / Service documents
Use instructions for the installed configuration.
Keep turbine, tower, controller and converter identities with the applicable operation and service documents.
Keep turbine, tower, controller and converter identities with the applicable operation and service documents. Record revisions and distinguish later modifications from the original supplied package.
Request the maintenance schedule, task definitions, approved materials and values from the relevant equipment instructions. This guide provides categories for planning and recording work; it does not prescribe lubricant grades, tightening torques or service intervals.
02 / Blade observations
Make blade condition records useful for comparison.
The current five-model range uses glass-fibre-reinforced plastic blades.
The current five-model range uses glass-fibre-reinforced plastic blades. During the inspections defined by the service instructions, record the observed surface and connection condition with clear location information and photographs where appropriate.
Compare observations with previous records and refer damage questions to the responsible service team. Material type alone does not define a repair method or acceptance criterion. See the blade technology page for the product material scope.
03 / Yaw & brakes
Record the actual mechanisms and their service requirements.
Identify the yaw drive and rotating interfaces on the installed machine.
Identify the yaw drive and rotating interfaces on the installed machine. Ask the service provider to define the inspections and measurements required by the applicable instructions. Record findings and any corrective work against that equipment identity.
For the current FD14-50KW, electric-motor yaw and hydraulic disc braking are separate functions. A compact pump actuated by an electric linear actuator provides brake pressure. Service requirements for that arrangement must be obtained for the current version rather than copied from earlier hydraulic-yaw records.
04 / Tower & electrics
Coordinate the turbine, tower and electrical service scope.
Include the tower supplier’s instructions and identify who is responsible for the tower and foundation condition records.
Include the tower supplier’s instructions and identify who is responsible for the tower and foundation condition records. Ask the qualified service team to establish access and equipment isolation arrangements applicable to the work.
Retain electrical enclosure, connection and cable-route information. Record the inspection findings required by the service plan and any changes made by qualified personnel. This page is not a live electrical work, climbing or mechanical repair procedure.
05 / Events & alarms
Preserve information before a service investigation.
When reporting an abnormal event, record the time, observed operating state, available alarms and relevant weather information.
When reporting an abnormal event, record the time, observed operating state, available alarms and relevant weather information. Include the equipment identities and any recent changes or service work.
Use the applicable operating instructions for the service response. Repeatedly clearing an unexplained alarm can remove useful context. Request the authorised investigation and return-to-service requirements instead of inferring a reset procedure from a general guide.
06 / Service record
Create a record that supports the next review.
A useful service entry identifies the task, instruction revision, person or organisation responsible, observations, measurements where required and work completed.
A useful service entry identifies the task, instruction revision, person or organisation responsible, observations, measurements where required and work completed. Keep photographs and follow-up actions linked to that entry.
Agree service coverage, access arrangements, spare-parts responsibilities and the unresolved-item process before procurement. The RFQ guide helps make those responsibilities part of the equipment discussion.

Prepare the information for this review.
Use the checklist to organise the project information. Mark unavailable items and retain document references.
| Review item | Information to provide | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment identity | Models, serials, revisions and modifications | Use applicable instructions. |
| Task scope | Scheduled tasks and required instruction references | Plan the correct work. |
| Condition record | Location, observations and photographs | Compare changes over time. |
| Event record | Time, alarms, operating state and recent work | Support fault investigation. |
| Responsibilities | Service provider, access, parts and follow-up | Define the response process. |
Engineering questions.
What maintenance interval applies to MARSTON turbines?
Obtain the schedule for the selected model and supplied configuration. No common interval is established by this general guide.
Does direct drive mean no maintenance is needed?
The complete turbine still has components and service requirements. Use the installed equipment instructions.
Can I use historical hydraulic-yaw instructions for the current version?
Use the documents for the actual installed yaw and braking arrangement. Keep historical versions identified separately.
Can I repair a blade using a general online guide?
Damage assessment and repair need the applicable criteria and responsible service expertise. This page supplies no repair procedure.
What should I include with a fault report?
Equipment identity, time, alarms, operating observations, relevant weather information and recent changes or service work.
Are service work and spare parts included in supply?
The quotation and service agreement must identify the included responsibilities, parts scope and local arrangements.
