What should a storage corrosion inspection record for wind machinery?

The short answer

Record where corrosion is observed, its apparent extent, affected identity and relevant storage exposure, then obtain the authorized technical disposition. A warehouse inspection should provide factual condition evidence rather than decide structural integrity or prescribe repairs from appearance alone. Cleaning or repainting before assessment can remove information needed to understand the finding.

Map the observation precisely

Identify the assembly, part or package and photograph both the overall location and the affected area with useful scale and orientation. Describe visible discoloration, coating damage or other observed features without assigning an unsupported corrosion depth or remaining strength. Record storage position, protective materials and any known water exposure. Compare with dispatch or earlier storage images where available. The evidence should allow the responsible supplier or specialist to identify the same location and decide what additional examination is needed.

Protect the assessment process

Segregate the affected item if its suitability is uncertain and prevent its inadvertent installation. Ask the designated technical party whether cleaning, further examination or testing is required and who may perform it. Do not improvise abrasive cleaning, coating repairs or material removal on a structural or precision surface. The correct response depends on the component, material and applicable acceptance criteria. A generic FAQ cannot determine whether a particular observed mark is cosmetic or technically significant.

Close the storage finding

Retain the original observation, technical assessment, authorized action and release evidence. If preservation failed, correct the storage arrangement and identify other items exposed to the same conditions. Link any repair record to the component identity and revise the storage status accordingly. A useful inspection result is a supported release, repair or rejection decision. It is not simply a photograph filed under corrosion checked while the equipment's actual disposition and future preservation responsibilities remain unresolved.
