Small wind / Buyer questions
Purchasing and delivery
When does a wind equipment shipment need a delivery-route survey?
The short answer
Consider a route survey when the final package envelope, mass, vehicle arrangement or access constraints create uncertainty about delivery feasibility. Use the actual transport configuration and competent logistics assessment. A road that can accommodate a small service vehicle may not accommodate the truck, turning path or unloading arrangement required for the packaged wind equipment.
Provide final transport inputs
Obtain package dimensions and gross masses, permitted orientations and any handling restrictions. Ask the carrier which vehicle and load arrangement are proposed. Include projections, trailer geometry and required movement clearances through the specialist's assessment rather than relying only on crate length. Changes after packing can invalidate an earlier route assumption. A preliminary quotation based on estimated dimensions is useful for planning, but it should be clearly distinguished from a route confirmation for the final consignment.
Assess the relevant constraints
The competent transport team should identify applicable road limits, turning geometry, overhead obstacles, bridges, entry gates and the final unloading area as relevant. Determine any permits, escorts or temporary works through the appropriate local process. This page does not prescribe those requirements or authorize a route. Ask what assumptions were used, what was physically checked and which constraints remain unverified. A route sketch is weaker evidence if the actual vehicle or cargo arrangement is still unknown.
Control the route release
Record the confirmed route, responsible carrier, restrictions, required preparations and valid assumptions. Establish how changes in cargo, vehicle, site access or road conditions are reviewed before dispatch. Share the final delivery plan with site personnel and identify who can stop movement if conditions differ. The deliverable is a practical logistics decision supported by verified inputs, not a guarantee that every future journey will remain unrestricted. Preserve it with the shipment and installation planning records for later reference.
