Small wind / Buyer questions
Purchasing and delivery
What preservation records should be requested after a wind shipment is delayed?
The short answer
Request records showing where the delayed shipment waited, how it remained protected and what inspections or preservation actions occurred. Compare the actual exposure with the supplier's storage and packaging instructions before authorizing further movement or installation. The original dispatch condition does not establish that the equipment remained suitable throughout an extended or changed journey.
Establish the delay history
Record dates, locations, transport-unit changes and whether packages were opened or damaged. Ask who had custody during each period and what environmental or handling observations were made. Distinguish a documented warehouse stay from an unknown interval at an intermediate terminal. The aim is a factual exposure history, not an assumption that every delay causes deterioration. Where information is missing, identify the uncertainty explicitly so the technical party can decide what additional inspection is proportionate.
Compare protection with actual conditions
Obtain the applicable preservation instructions and check whether their duration or exposure assumptions were exceeded. Ask for seal, barrier, humidity-indicator or other condition records where those measures form part of the approved plan. Any restoration of protection should identify the action, date and responsible person. Do not invent a universal safe storage duration or treat unopened packaging as conclusive proof of condition. Different components and packaging systems can require different inspection and release decisions after delay.
Obtain a documented next-step decision
The supplier or other designated competent party should assess the history and specify any inspection, testing, preservation renewal or rejection required. Link the disposition to the affected package and equipment identities. Reconcile revised delivery and insurance arrangements through the relevant commercial parties where needed. Keep the original dispatch record alongside later observations. This preserves the sequence of evidence and avoids presenting a delayed shipment as unchanged merely because the tracking system eventually reports that it resumed movement.
