Why must a tilt-up tower winch anchor be assessed separately from the tower base?
The short answer
A winch anchor receives the reaction from the lifting line at its own location and direction. That demand is not established by the tower base’s capacity or by a generic anchor pullout label. The complete temporary lifting arrangement needs an assessment of the winch support, its connection and the ground that resists the reaction.
Identify where the reaction enters the ground
A winch attached to a designed foundation, ground anchor or another assessed support has a defined force path. Its geometry can create horizontal, uplift and overturning actions at that support. The load direction may also change with the lifting arrangement.
Equipment weight does not necessarily provide enough resistance by itself. A convenient nearby object is not a verified anchor merely because it appears heavy or immovable.
Use the actual lifting-system demand
The lifting designer should determine the relevant line forces and reactions for the approved system, including geometry and applicable allowances. The anchor reviewer needs those forces at a defined point and direction, rather than only the turbine’s mass.
If several lines or attachments share a support, their simultaneous actions need appropriate assessment. A capacity established for one pull direction does not automatically cover a different inclined or offset load.
Keep the temporary anchor within the engineering scope
Compare its location with ground conditions, buried services, slope geometry and the other tower supports. Confirm that the assessed temporary arrangement can be installed and used without conflicting with the permanent foundation.
Do not improvise an anchor, select a winch or carry out a pull test from this FAQ. The practical decision is acceptance of a specific temporary reaction path before erection. Manufacturer tilt-up examples explain why this interface exists but do not establish that a winch-supported method is offered or suitable for any MARSTON model.
