Does surface cracking prove that a wind-equipment hose is leaking internally?

The short answer

Surface cracking describes the hose cover condition; it does not establish whether the inner tube or reinforcement is intact. Equally, lack of visible leakage does not make a cracked hose acceptable. A qualified hose-specific assessment should consider the damage, installed duty and applicable replacement requirements without testing the hose by touch or deliberate pressurization.

Separate the hose layers and functions

Where a hose is actually fitted, its cover protects construction that may not be visible. A shallow-looking crack and exposed reinforcement are different observations, but a photograph cannot reliably determine depth through every layer. Parker identifies cover damage and deterioration among hose inspection concerns. That general guidance does not establish a MARSTON hose construction, pressure rating or transferable acceptance threshold for the observed part.

Consider the exposure and location

Cracks near a tight bend, a hot surface or repeated rubbing suggest different investigation questions from broad weathered cracking. Fluid compatibility and age history can also matter. Do not manipulate the installed hose to open the cracks for a better view. Pressure may remain after the machine or pump stops, so neither a stopped state nor an absence of visible spray establishes safe handling.

A crack on the outside of a bend and an abraded region at a restraint suggest different local exposure questions. The hose specialist should consider those locations rather than assume a common age-related cause for every visible defect on the same assembly.

Ask for a replacement or inspection disposition

Provide the hose identity if known, visible damaged region and intended function. The specialist should determine whether it must be removed from service and what approved replacement or examination applies. Patching the outer cover does not establish restored pressure integrity. No MARSTON hose material or life is asserted here, and this page does not provide a pressure test, depressurization sequence or instruction to operate a damaged assembly.
