Small wind / Buyer questions
Electrical configuration
How can a reversed current transformer disturb wind export control?
The short answer
A reversed CT can reverse the sign of the measured power used by an export controller. The controller may then respond in the wrong direction unless the configuration and physical installation are reconciled.
Understand the interface decision
Correct communication with an energy meter does not prove that its current and voltage references represent the intended power flow. CT orientation, phase association and configured sign conventions all matter. A plausible total reading can also conceal a phase mapping error.
The connection operator determines the applicable grid-interface requirements. Review the approved equipment configuration against those requirements and site conditions. An example from another installation can explain a concept, but cannot authorize a new connection or settings change.
Put these inputs in the review record
Use a project-specific worksheet to capture the following information. For each entry, name the document, revision and person responsible for resolving any uncertainty.
- CT orientation and its marked relationship to the connection point. Identify the exact configuration and the supporting document.
- Current-channel and voltage-phase correspondence. Keep the design assumptions visible in the project record.
- Meter and controller import-export sign conventions. Name the responsible reviewer and resolve any missing information.
- A controlled verification using known power-flow conditions. State how this entry will be verified during acceptance.
Define the acceptance boundary
Accept the measurement chain only after direction and phase mapping are confirmed at the defined boundary. Do not correct the dashboard display alone while leaving the control input wrong. Use the approved commissioning method for the installed system.
The evidence should show the reference operating condition and the readings before enabling closed-loop export control. Preserve CT identifiers and phase labels so later meter replacement does not silently reverse the system’s interpretation.
