Small wind / Buyer questions
Electrical configuration
Can I connect wind power to an existing battery inverter?
The short answer
Possibly, but first identify which interface would receive the wind energy. A PV DC input, a battery connection, an AC input and an AC output are different ports with different supported uses. A label such as “hybrid inverter” does not make them interchangeable. The proposed wind subsystem must have a documented conversion and control arrangement that respects the battery inverter's input limits, permitted power directions and operating modes.
Start with a port-by-port drawing
Mark the existing equipment's exact model and show the contemplated connection point. Then describe normal grid operation, islanded operation and a full battery. An arrangement permitted while the utility is connected may need different controls when the battery inverter forms the local AC system.
Manufacturer AC-coupling examples show that some output ports can accept controlled generating sources. That is a supported system function, not permission to back-feed any inverter outlet.
Compare the proposed interfaces
| Proposed port | Evidence to find |
|---|---|
| PV DC input | Explicit acceptance of the source or approved intermediary |
| Battery circuit | Charging architecture, battery limits and coordinated controls |
| AC input/output | Permitted generation connection, reverse power and island behavior |
The port's voltage alone does not answer any of these questions.
Model the constrained case
Hypothetical example: wind supplies 3 kW to a local AC bus, loads use 1 kW and the receiving system allows only 1 kW of battery charging. A further 1 kW still needs an approved destination or reduction response. The battery inverter's kVA rating alone does not establish that response.
MARSTON supplies no proprietary battery. Identify the retained battery, inverter and proposed wind converter, with the equipment suppliers' actual compatibility information.
Keep the existing equipment constraints intact
A wind retrofit should not rely on silently repurposing a port contrary to its documented use. First compare supported system arrangements that preserve the retained inverter and battery requirements. If no supported path exists, include replacement equipment in the proposal rather than assuming that a software label or adapter cable creates the missing conversion function.
