Why can a telecom site's demand increase after its normal power supply returns?
The short answer
Demand can rise because the restored supply must operate the communications equipment and replenish energy used during the outage. Cooling and other services may also be recovering. A normal steady-load reading therefore need not represent the restoration period. The important decision is how quickly recovery must finish and what capacity remains after the live service is supplied.
Separate service load from battery recovery
Use actual rectifier and battery documents to establish permitted charging and the responsible charge controller. Record the battery's post-outage condition as an assumption or measured state. A missing amount of usable battery energy is not automatically identical to AC input needed for recharge: charging losses and auxiliary consumption belong at their respective measurement boundaries.
Calculate a bounded recovery case
Hypothetically, a site needs 1.2 kW continuously and allocates another 0.8 kW of input to recovery for five hours. The combined input is 2.0 kW during those hours, with 4 kWh allocated to recovery. This arithmetic does not establish actual charge acceptance or energy restored. If input is limited, ask which approved control reduces recharge and how that affects readiness for another outage.
Keep the assumed second-outage time visible. A design that eventually replenishes the battery can still leave insufficient accepted readiness when another interruption occurs before that recovery window has finished.
Specify the next-event requirement
Evaluate repeated interruptions as well as the first restoration. A long recharge deadline can be acceptable for one owner and inadequate for another. Wind should be represented by its supported chronological contribution during the recovery window, with another verified supply covering any required shortfall. Provide the steady DC service, permitted charge profile and readiness deadline in the enquiry. A turbine nameplate rating cannot demonstrate that the battery will recover by that deadline or that an existing rectifier accepts wind equipment.
