Application integration
How should radio sleep modes change a telecom wind-load forecast?
The short answer
Radio sleep modes can change demand, but they must be represented as documented operating states rather than a fixed saving applied to every quiet hour. Traffic, coverage obligations, hardware configuration and enabled software features matter. A sleeping radio function also does not mean that the site's cooling, transport network and supervisory equipment have all switched off.
Identify what actually enters sleep
Ask the network team which carriers, antenna branches or transmitting functions are affected and what triggers their supported modes. Ericsson describes several different mechanisms; their names are not interchangeable. Record the installed radio configuration and enabled feature set. A marketing saving for another radio generation cannot become the power profile of the proposed site's equipment.
Build a traffic-linked electrical record
Align measured radio input with traffic and mode state over representative conditions. Include mode transitions and the remaining site baseline. Do not infer electrical input directly from data throughput or multiply peak traffic by one watts-per-user factor. A low-traffic interval can still need coverage signaling and other continuously available services defined by the operator.
Compare like radio configurations before and after a feature change. Otherwise an added carrier or a changed coverage requirement can be mistaken for poor performance of the proposed energy-saving state.
Compare current and planned network states
If the operator expects software changes or an additional carrier, model that future configuration separately. Wind sized against today's avoidable demand may have less useful headroom after an efficiency improvement. Conversely, a later traffic or coverage change can increase accepted load. Provide the state profiles, operator-approved service constraints and configuration dates with the wind enquiry. Assess how much generation can be used in each state without proposing that a renewable controller override network service. No MARSTON radio-management or telecom compatibility feature is established by these general examples.
