Small wind / Buyer questions
Application integration
Should an online analyzer's automatic cleaning cycle be counted as normal measurement load?
The short answer
It belongs in total instrument energy, but it should be identified separately from valid measurement production. Automatic cleaning, calibration checks and normal sampling can have different input and data states. An output value may also be held during cleaning. Counting every powered minute as a fresh accepted observation can overstate the monitoring service delivered.
Use the actual analyzer-state description
Obtain the selected model's sampling, cleaning and output behavior. Hach's manual illustrates a configured cleaning state with alternative output handling. Those options and intervals apply to that product; do not assume every analyzer freezes or flags data identically. Identify which actual status indicates cleaning and how the downstream logger interprets it.
Account for the whole instrument service
Include cleaning pumps, valves, heating or other functions actually fitted, with reagent or water services identified separately where relevant. Determine whether the analyzer input meter already includes them. A cycle consuming extra energy may be necessary for valid operation later, so it should not be deleted as waste merely because no accepted sample is produced during that interval.
Identify the source of a held output value. A numeric result repeated during cleaning may be intentional output behavior rather than a new measurement, a sensor fault or an actual stable process condition.
Preserve data-state evidence in the wind comparison
Build the load chronology with separate valid-measurement and maintenance states. A held concentration must not silently become a sequence of new observations. Ask the instrument owner which scheduling changes are permitted and how service returns afterward. Provide that accepted profile and electrical interface to the integrator. This page gives no cleaning chemistry, calibration settings or treatment-quality guarantee. A MARSTON wind contribution does not establish analytical accuracy, an instrument-control feature or permission to move automatic maintenance outside the maker's and owner's accepted requirements.
