How should an operator track wind equipment service bulletins?
The short answer
Maintain a register that links each relevant service bulletin to the affected asset identities, required assessment, authorized action and completion evidence. A bulletin received by email is not automatically applicable to every turbine, and filing it does not demonstrate that required work has been completed. Confirm scope and urgency using the issuing supplier's instructions.
Check applicability before action
Record the issuer, bulletin identifier, revision and stated affected models, parts, serial ranges or configurations. Compare these with the installed asset record and ask the supplier to resolve ambiguous matches. Distinguish an informative notice from a required action according to the actual document. Do not guess that a similarly named component is included or excluded. Where the notice describes a safety concern or operating restriction, route it promptly to the responsible competent parties using the project's escalation process.
Plan and authorize the response
Identify the required work, competent personnel, parts, access and procedure references. Confirm whether the bulletin changes manuals, inspections or operating conditions. Obtain the necessary technical and commercial decisions before performing work outside existing authority. The FAQ does not determine a bulletin's legal force or prescribe the physical action for a particular machine. If completion must wait, record the interim status and restrictions specified by the responsible parties instead of marking the item closed because a work order was raised.
Retain asset-level completion evidence
Link the executed task, replaced component identities, required checks and release decision to each affected asset. Record cases assessed as not applicable with their basis. Update the manual and spare references where necessary. Keep superseded bulletin revisions traceable while identifying the current requirement. This process gives the operator a defensible view of exposure and completion across the fleet. It also prevents a general supplier correspondence folder from becoming the only record of an important change to installed equipment.
