Small wind / Buyer questions
Purchasing and delivery
Who should authorize repair of a failed wind turbine component?
The short answer
Assign repair authorization to the technical and commercial parties identified for the component and service arrangement. Establish the repair scope, permitted methods, evidence and release criteria before workshop work begins. Ownership of a failed part or possession by a local repair shop does not by itself demonstrate authority or competence to modify it for renewed wind-system service.
Define the failed component and objective
Record the originating asset, part and revision identity, observed condition and reason for proposed repair. Ask whether diagnosis, restoration, modification or replacement is intended. Preserve relevant evidence before dismantling if failure analysis or warranty assessment is expected. The responsible technical party should determine what work is permissible and which documents apply. Do not assume that a repair method acceptable for another industrial component is suitable for the exact generator, structural part or control assembly involved.
Approve the repair arrangement
Identify the competent repair provider, technical instructions, required parts and acceptance checks. Clarify any supplier involvement, intellectual-property or access limitations through authorized representatives. Commercial approval for an expenditure is distinct from technical approval of the repaired result. Where a warranty or contract consequence needs interpretation, obtain qualified advice rather than assume that any local repair either preserves or cancels coverage automatically. This page supplies a control framework, not a component repair procedure or legal determination.
Release with traceable evidence
Retain the assessment, authorized work scope, actual work performed, installed parts and required test results. Record deviations and the final approval before returning the component to available stock or service. Update the asset history and spare references if its configuration changed. An invoice saying repaired is insufficient when it does not establish what was done and against which criteria. A closed repair should provide a defensible bridge from the failed condition to the specific accepted condition of that physical item.
