Which operating states should a wind-system electrical interface schedule describe?

The short answer

Include normal generation, startup, controlled shutdown, unavailable-grid operation and credible faults. An interface schedule that describes only rated generation can leave the most demanding voltage, current or command transitions undefined.

Understand the interface decision

An electrical connection has more than a connector and a nominal voltage. A converter may accept energy only after an enable sequence; a controller may need a separate supply while the main circuit is unavailable. A protective action can also change which device absorbs generator energy. Review the states as a connected sequence rather than separate component descriptions.

A wind electrical interface must be checked across its operating envelope, including transitions and credible faults. The following is an engineering review method; it does not establish compatibility between unnamed turbine, generator, converter or controller models.

Put these inputs in the review record

Use a project-specific worksheet to capture the following information. For each entry, name the document, revision and person responsible for resolving any uncertainty.

  • Each state and its entry condition, including the source of the command. Identify the exact configuration and the supporting document.
  • Voltage and current limits at every power port during that state. Keep the design assumptions visible in the project record.
  • Required control supplies, permissives, feedback signals and timeout behavior. Name the responsible reviewer and resolve any missing information.
  • The device responsible for absorbing or limiting energy when normal conversion stops. State how this entry will be verified during acceptance.

Define the acceptance boundary

Accept the schedule when every transition has an owner, expected response and documented limit. A blank cell should become an open technical item, not an assumption that equipment will coordinate itself. Use identical state names in drawings, control descriptions and test records.

For example, distinguish “grid unavailable” from “converter stopped with control power available.” They can require different actions. The completed schedule should let an integration engineer trace the turbine, controller and converter behavior without guessing a proprietary topology.
