What should be recorded when grouting a wind tower base?

The short answer

Record the grout material and batch, approved procedure, placement conditions, preparation checks, observations and required curing or acceptance evidence. Follow the responsible structural designer's and material supplier's requirements for the actual tower base. This FAQ does not supply a universal grout formulation, thickness, placement temperature or waiting period suitable for every foundation arrangement.

Confirm the approved grouting basis

Identify the foundation and tower details, grout specification, relevant drawing revisions and inspection points. Ask who accepts surface preparation, geometry and other prerequisites before placement. Verify that the material delivered matches the approved reference and its stated shelf-life and storage requirements. If the material or site condition differs, obtain technical disposition before use. A product advertised for general machinery bases is not automatically demonstrated suitable for the specific structural connection in the wind project.

Capture conditions and execution

Record the responsible crew, material identity and the environmental or preparation observations required by the procedure. Retain the applicable mixing, placement and test records at the specified level. Do not invent additional water ratios or field adjustments when the instructed process cannot be followed. Stop the affected activity and consult the responsible technical parties. Photographs can help show sequence and condition, but they should supplement the required records rather than stand in for material or acceptance evidence that was never obtained.

Document release for the next stage

The designated structural authority should assess the specified evidence and record any conditions before the relevant installation load or activity proceeds. Preserve nonconformances and approved corrective work in the foundation history. Retain the actual material and procedure references for future inspection. A completed grouting record should connect the approved basis with the work performed and its acceptance. It is not merely a delivery receipt for bags of grout or a statement that the surface looked satisfactory after placement.
