Small wind / Buyer questions
Environment and maintenance
Can a cleaner safe for painted metal also be assumed safe for wind blades and seals?
The short answer
No. A cleaner compatible with one painted metal surface may affect a blade coating, composite resin, elastomer or adjacent material differently. The relevant decision concerns every material the cleaner can contact under the actual method. Product name alone is insufficient; concentration, contact duration, temperature, rinsing and any residue also need appropriate compatibility evidence.
Map the contacted surfaces
A cleaning liquid can run beyond the intended patch and enter a joint or reach a seal. An apparently similar white finish may use another system. Identify the actual substrate and surface treatment where possible, along with adjacent materials and openings. Do not infer that a cleaner approved for another manufacturer or another part is compatible with the turbine assembly being assessed.
Consider appearance and functional effects
Discoloration, softening, swelling, lifting or loss of adhesion can raise different material questions, and an immediate clean appearance does not establish long-term compatibility. Trelleborg describes chemical and environmental contributors to elastomer condition, while coating guidance distinguishes preparation and system compatibility. These support a material-specific review; they do not provide a universal safe solvent or a MARSTON cleaning recipe.
If runoff can reach a seal, the compatibility confirmation should include that seal even when the cleaner is intended for a blade surface. Limiting the application area in the work description does not establish that every contacted material will remain within that intended boundary.
Obtain an approved method
Ask the relevant supplier to confirm the proposed product and use conditions for the actual components, including any post-cleaning examination. An informal hidden-spot trial cannot establish every sealing, structural or electrical consequence. Do not mix products or increase concentration to overcome a stubborn deposit. MARSTON cleaner compatibility and coating chemistry are unconfirmed here; use only the applicable task instructions and qualified assessment for the installed equipment.
