When should wind tower anchor bolt positions be surveyed?
The short answer
Plan anchor-bolt geometry checks early enough to resolve discrepancies before tower erection, following the structural designer's inspection requirements. Survey the constructed interface against the approved reference and retain identifiable results. A visual fit check when the tower is suspended is too late to substitute for the planned verification and may encourage unsafe, unauthorized correction work.
Define the required geometry evidence
Ask the designer and installation contractor which positions, levels, projections and orientation references must be checked for the actual foundation and tower interface. Use the specified measurement method and acceptance tolerances rather than generic dimensions. Identify the drawing revision, foundation location and relevant bolt or template references. Where temporary construction stages affect access, place the survey at a suitable hold point. The purpose is to verify a defined interface, not merely to obtain a report titled anchor bolts inspected.
Resolve discrepancies before erection
Record differences clearly and refer them to the responsible engineering parties. Do not bend, cut, heat or otherwise alter anchors or mating parts to obtain a fit without an approved engineering disposition. Check whether proposed corrections affect structural acceptance, corrosion protection or installation instructions. The installation team should know which activities remain on hold while the issue is assessed. A schedule delay does not provide technical authority to change a load-bearing interface.
Carry the accepted result into installation
Retain the survey, reference documents and accepted disposition with the foundation release record. Before erection, confirm that the actual interface has not changed and that temporary protection or damage has not invalidated the earlier check. Make the evidence available to the erection supervisor. A successful survey establishes the agreed geometric condition at a stated time. It does not replace concrete or structural acceptance, determine foundation adequacy independently, or certify the complete erected wind turbine system.
