Can a three-phase wind generator supply single-phase power?

The short answer

Potentially, through an electrical package designed for that purpose. A three-phase generator does not mean every downstream AC output must have three phases. Rectification and conversion can create a different site-facing interface. This possibility does not prove that a specific controller or inverter supports the arrangement. Confirm the generator input, continuous output, thermal limits and connection requirements for the exact package.

Keep input and output descriptions separate

A hypothetical architecture could accept variable generator AC, create an intermediate DC circuit and then produce single-phase site AC. That is a functional description, not a wiring diagram or a claim that every converter has those stages.

The question is whether the offered equipment implements and supports the complete chain. A supplier should not answer it solely by pointing to the generator's phase count.

Single-phase current can change the comparison

Idealized unity-power-factor example: supplying 5 kW at 230 V single phase corresponds to about 21.7 A. Supplying the same active power at 400 V balanced three phase corresponds to about 7.2 A line current. Losses, reactive power and operating conditions can change the actual currents.

The comparison explains why a phase change affects more than the name on an output terminal. It is not a cable, fuse or breaker selection calculation.

Check the whole package

Boundary Confirmation needed
Generator input Voltage/current behavior and accepted source
Conversion package Supported input-to-output configuration and continuous limits
Site connection Output voltage, frequency, phase allocation and approval

For expansion, consider other generation and site loads on the same phase. A connection suitable for one machine may not be suitable for the total proposed installation.

MARSTON supply scope and any single-phase arrangement must be confirmed in the specific quotation.

Treat conversion capability and permission separately

A converter may technically produce the required phase arrangement while the proposed site connection still needs a separate assessment. Include both in the comparison. The utility or local designer may impose conditions on source allocation or total export that are not resolved by the converter having a single-phase output label.
