Do I need to preserve crane access after the turbine is installed?

The short answer

Plan for the maintenance methods specified for the actual installation, including access for lifting equipment if a future task may require it. The initial erection route does not guarantee that the same route will remain available years later. Identify the major-service access envelope before surrounding land is developed, then record how that access will be protected or restored.

Initial erection and major service are different jobs

The installation contractor may use temporary arrangements that disappear when construction finishes. A later service team might face occupied buildings, mature landscaping, different ground conditions or equipment that cannot be moved easily. Its working position may also differ from the original crane location.

Use the actual maintenance concept: work at height, lowering, component exchange or another documented method. None should be assumed to apply to every MARSTON model or tower. Ask the equipment and service parties which tasks drive the largest access requirement.

Compare permanent protection with planned reinstatement

Approach Issue to price and manage
Keep an assessed access area available Land-use restrictions and ongoing upkeep.
Restore temporary access when needed Mobilisation, permissions, lead time and reinstatement work.
Change the service method Documented feasibility for the installed equipment.

A future access allowance is not automatically a permanent road. The suitable arrangement depends on the service task and local conditions.

Put the requirement in ordinary site management

Record the route and working areas on the site plan used by facilities staff, not only in the installer’s files. Check proposed fences, trees, storage yards and new buildings against that plan before they become permanent obstacles.

When comparing service offers, identify whether mobilisation and access preparation are included. An installation can be technically maintainable yet have a long restoration lead time. That distinction affects spare-parts strategy and outage planning. A preserved access record gives future contractors a starting point; it does not replace their task-specific lifting assessment.
