Can a lighting circuit's running watts establish whether a wind-supported supply can start all its LED drivers?

The short answer

No. Steady input does not describe the brief startup current of an electronic driver, especially when many units energize together. The selected supply and switching/protection arrangement need evidence for the actual event. A circuit that carries running current satisfactorily can still be unsuitable for simultaneous startup; a higher nominal wattage alone does not resolve that question.

Obtain the actual startup description

Request driver inrush magnitude, duration and specified conditions, together with any manufacturer limits for grouped operation. MEAN WELL distinguishes startup pulses from normal input. Its example currents and suggested arrangements are not universal values or permission to change this site's protection. Cold and repeated starts can also differ, so use the applicable event definition rather than one isolated peak.

Assess the complete bank and source

Identify which drivers can energize at the same time and the upstream source's supported response. Do not simply multiply a peak current by a long duration to invent energy, or average it over a shift to dismiss the event. Source impedance and actual waveform matter. Include control and switch ratings through the responsible electrical designer.

Ask whether reported inrush describes a single unit or an approved group arrangement. A tested individual driver does not establish the complete bank's source response under the actual simultaneous-start condition.

Separate startup capability from energy contribution

The lighting service can use modest daily energy while requiring a demanding brief input. Wind may offset normal consumption with another approved source supporting startup, depending on the actual architecture. Have qualified personnel define any required acceptance evidence; this page provides no live switching test, breaker substitution or inrush-limiter wiring procedure. Send driver documents and the simultaneous-start scenario in the RFQ. A MARSTON kW label cannot demonstrate compatibility with every LED bank, and lighting-quality acceptance remains a separate owner/designer responsibility.
