Can a hydraulic accumulator's shell volume establish how long it can supply a process?

The short answer

No. Shell volume is not the same as fluid deliverable over an accepted pressure range. A gas-charged accumulator changes gas and liquid volumes as pressure changes. Useful delivery also depends on the process's minimum pressure and required flow. The buyer needs manufacturer-supported capacity for the actual duty, not a duration calculated from the vessel's nominal litres.

Obtain the approved pressure-volume case

HYDAC identifies pressure range and effective gas or useful fluid volume as necessary inputs to delivery assessment. Use the actual accumulator type, operating conditions and applicable maker's calculation. Do not assume a shell is full of useful liquid or that all stored liquid may be discharged while preserving the required pressure. This page supplies no precharge value or adjustment procedure.

Relate useful volume to the required service

Hypothetically, if the supplier has established 8 litres as usable within the accepted range and a service requires a constant 0.2 litre per second, ideal volume alone corresponds to forty seconds. These invented values omit leakage and dynamic limitations and do not validate the duty. Actual pressure and flow throughout that interval still need appropriate evidence.

State which discharge endpoint defines usable volume. A vessel can still contain fluid when the pressure falls below the accepted service boundary, so residual contents do not automatically extend the useful delivery duration.

Keep hydraulic buffering separate from electrical storage

A useful hydraulic reserve can support only the functions connected and approved for it. It does not automatically supply controls, cooling or another electrical load, nor does it establish a battery substitute. Include recharge demand and mandatory auxiliary power when comparing wind-supported campaigns. Give the integrator the accepted usable-volume case and hydraulic service profile. Pressure-system and machine acceptance remain with qualified specialists. No MARSTON accumulator product, load-holding guarantee or complete service duration follows from a nominal vessel size or turbine energy total.
