Can a heated gas-sampling line be shed while the analyzer stays powered?
The short answer
Only if the actual sampling design permits that state. A heated line can preserve the required sample condition between the source and analyzer. Keeping analyzer electronics energized does not prove that material reaching them remains representative after line heating is lost. The instrument owner must assess sample handling separately from the analyzer's electrical availability.
Identify why the line is heated
Obtain the actual gas composition and sampling-system design through the responsible specialist. ABB's documented arrangement heats a probe and line to avoid condensation. That is an equipment example, not a universal temperature or a requirement to heat every sample. A different sample may use another approved conditioning method; its purpose must be understood before treating the heater as discretionary.
Trace the measurement consequence
Ask what happens to transported components, response and accepted results if the line leaves its approved condition. Later restoration of heater power does not automatically validate records made during the interruption. Keep line state, analyzer readiness and valid-data flags separate. This page gives no dew-point setpoint, sample-gas operating procedure or permission to bypass a heater alarm.
Include the permitted recovery state after line conditions return. A restored heater indication alone does not settle whether the transported sample and analyzer output have regained their accepted condition.
Define the complete service input
Include heated transport and any required probe, pump or cooler at the selected electrical boundary. Do not assume the analyzer nameplate includes external conditioning. The owner should state which functions can wait and which are required throughout an accepted observation period. Send that condition/input schedule with the wind enquiry. If essential line heating cannot be supported, the accepted response may be invalid data or a process-defined interruption rather than continued claimed service. MARSTON equipment compatibility and analytical performance remain unconfirmed until the actual interfaces are reviewed.
