Small wind / Buyer questions
Application integration
Does enough stored thermal energy guarantee that a process can receive heat at the required temperature?
The short answer
No. Stored thermal kWh describe an energy quantity, while a process also needs heat delivered at a suitable temperature and rate. As a store cools, the temperature difference available across a heat exchanger can shrink. A store can therefore retain energy while no longer supplying the required outlet duty through the installed exchanger.
Define the delivery conditions
Obtain the required process outlet temperature, flow and accepted return conditions. Ask for heat-exchanger performance at the actual fluids and relevant store temperatures. Alfa Laval describes duty through flow and temperature relationships; there is no universal approach temperature suitable for every exchanger. A tank-average temperature may also differ from the temperature available at the supply connection.
Distinguish capacity from usable discharge
An energy estimate based on mass and temperature range should count only the range that can meet the accepted delivery requirement. Do not assume the store can cool to ambient while still serving a hotter process. Heat-transfer area, flow and actual temperature profiles determine the permitted discharge rate. Insulation losses and circulation input belong in the complete service comparison.
Identify which store temperature is used by the performance evidence. Replacing an available outlet temperature with an average of unrelated sensors can overstate the driving temperature difference and usable discharge period.
Bound the wind-storage credit
When assessing electrical heating from wind, model both charging permission and temperature-qualified delivery later. A nominal store large enough in kWh may require another source before its energy estimate reaches zero. Record that transition and retained supply rather than claiming complete process coverage. The enquiry should include exchanger duty evidence, usable store conditions and the owner-defined service. This page gives no exchanger sizing or process-temperature prescription. It establishes neither a MARSTON thermal-storage product nor compatibility with an unreviewed heater, tank or control arrangement.
