Small wind / Buyer questions
Application integration
Can lower conveyor kWh per tonne prove that a wind-based operating schedule improved efficiency?
The short answer
Not by itself. Kilowatt-hours per tonne can change because transported mass, empty running or the physical transport task changes. A wind-aligned schedule may alter those factors without improving the conveyor's intrinsic efficiency. Compare the same service and reconcile both the energy numerator and throughput denominator before attributing an improvement to the scheduling change.
Define the transported task
State which material, route, elevation and accepted output the ratio covers. Identify whether the mass counter includes rejected, recirculated or transferred material more than once. Keep the conveyor line boundary consistent with any included feeders or shared auxiliaries. ABB's drive guide explains load characteristics generally; it does not provide a performance ratio for this conveyor.
Test the denominator effect
Hypothetically, 10 kWh moving 20 tonnes gives 0.5 kWh per tonne. The same 10 kWh moving 10 tonnes gives 1 kWh per tonne. The changed ratio does not show a changed electrical input. These invented values omit route and operating-condition differences. Separately tag empty running, since that energy can exist without additional accepted tonnes during the interval.
Use the same mass time boundary as the energy interval. Material entering near the end and leaving later can otherwise create an artificial intensity change when energy and accepted output are assigned to different periods.
Compare useful scheduling outcomes
Use matched periods or an appropriately supported model to distinguish changes in duty, operating losses and purchased energy displaced by wind. Report total input, accepted throughput and wind contribution separately. Increased direct wind use is not automatically improved conveyor efficiency. Ask the owner which material buffers and production windows are actually available, then give the accepted trajectory to the integrator. No MARSTON conveyor-control interface or guaranteed production saving follows from a lower ratio, and a dispatch must preserve the approved material-handling sequence.
