Wind Power for Remote Industrial Sites

Industrial wind power begins with a practical question: when wind energy is available, where will it be used? Match the facility’s operating pattern with the site resource, electrical connection and buildable turbine location.

Применение

Timing matters as much as the annual total.

Two facilities with the same annual electricity consumption can use wind energy differently. One may operate continuously; another may close at night or on weekends. A monthly bill shows total consumption but hides these differences. Interval demand records provide a better starting point for understanding how a proposed wind installation would interact with the facility’s electrical load.

01

Manufacturing and workshops

Facilities with documented production schedules, motor loads and an identified connection point.

02

Warehousing and services

Sites where lighting, ventilation and auxiliary demand can be separated by operating period.

03

Remote industrial facilities

Facilities comparing wind with their existing utility, generator or independent supply arrangement.

Инженерные вопросы

Connect the resource to the operating site.

Demand, wind exposure and the electrical connection should be assessed together before choosing a turbine size.

01 / Demand and energy use

Distinguish self-consumption from export.

Self-consumption means wind energy is used by the site as it is generated. Export means energy flows beyond the site connection when generation exceeds the demand being served. The two require different project assumptions; export permission and its commercial value cannot be taken for granted.

Compare available wind information with operating hours, shift changes, weekends and seasonal shutdowns. Document any export limit and the intended response when site demand is low. An annual generation estimate alone does not show how much energy the facility can use at the same time.

The useful comparison

Time-based demand and generation, with the connection and export conditions recorded alongside them.

02 / Turbine location

Keep the rotor clear of unsuitable airflow.

Buildings, trees and terrain affect the wind reaching a proposed rotor. An open-looking corner of an industrial property may still be influenced by nearby structures. The site assessment needs the intended hub height, surrounding obstacles and prevailing wind directions.

A taller building does not automatically make its roof a suitable turbine position. Structural effects, turbulent airflow, access and the support arrangement all require consideration. Compare practical ground-based tower locations and cable routes before treating a building location as the default.

Bring a site plan

Mark buildings, obstructions, boundaries, turbine options and the proposed electrical connection.

03 / Electrical duty

Define motor events and the wider supply.

Compressors, pumps and other motors can introduce starting or cycling demands that differ from steady electrical consumption. Record the starting method, drive equipment and which loads operate together. These details inform the electrical interface and the duty of the wider supply system.

Wind equipment must also be assessed for the intended grid or generator arrangement. A standard grid-connected installation should not be assumed to keep the facility operating during an outage. Backup or isolated operation requires a separately defined architecture and compatible equipment.

Avoid a sizing shortcut

A turbine power rating does not establish motor-starting capability or outage backup performance.

Illustrative load calculation

Assume a 15 kW electrical load operating for an 8-hour shift.

15 kW × 8 h

120 kWh per shift

This describes the shift’s load demand before system losses. It is not turbine generation, a self-consumption forecast or a saving estimate. Other shifts, standby demand and starting events require separate treatment.

Look for a useful, buildable contribution.

Более прочная отправная точка

Representative wind evidence, a feasible tower location, a documented demand profile and a defined route for consuming or exporting the energy.

Сначала уточните эти ограничения

A turbulent or constrained site, a forecast built only from turbine nameplate power, or a business case dependent on unconfirmed export terms or backup capability.

Вопросы перед заданием спецификации.

Can a monthly electricity bill size the system?

It is a useful starting point, but it does not show simultaneous demand. Operating schedules and interval data help establish when wind energy could be used.

Can wind power be installed on a factory roof?

A roof should not be assumed suitable. Airflow, structural effects, support design and access need assessment against practical alternative locations.

Will a grid-connected turbine provide power during an outage?

Do not assume this. Backup or islanded operation needs an explicitly designed electrical arrangement and equipment with confirmed capabilities.

Which MARSTON turbine sizes can be discussed?

The current range includes 5, 10, 20, 30 and 50 kW electric yaw models. Site evidence and electrical requirements determine which configuration deserves further assessment.
