Application / Oilfield operations
Wind Power for Remote Oilfield Sites
An oilfield is a collection of different electrical duties. Instrumentation, communications, auxiliary services and pumping equipment should be defined separately before wind is evaluated as part of the site supply.
Zastosowanie
Separate the loads before selecting equipment.
A low-power monitoring package and a main pumping drive do not create the same requirement. Their daily energy use, instantaneous demand, continuity needs and supply interfaces can differ substantially. Grouping them under a single oilfield label hides those differences. Begin with the circuits intended to receive wind energy and identify the existing source that supports each circuit.
Monitoring and communications
Instrumentation, telemetry and communications loads with documented voltage and continuity requirements.
Auxiliary services
Lighting, controls and other defined site services evaluated independently from production equipment.
Process energy contribution
Wind considered within the wider electrical supply to specified motor and process loads.
Inżynieria
Define the duty, the connection and the location.
An equipment enquiry should describe what the wind subsystem will serve and the operating conditions at that connection point.
01 / Load behaviour
Motor rating is only part of the demand.
For pumping and other driven equipment, distinguish electrical input from mechanical motor output. Operating power depends on the actual duty. Record operating hours, cycling, simultaneous equipment and the starting method rather than estimating demand from the motor nameplate alone.
A start or process transition can place a different demand on the supply from steady operation. Provide the motor and drive documentation and available demand records. A turbine with a matching kilowatt label does not establish that it can start or continuously supply that motor.
Useful operating evidence
Electrical demand records, motor and drive data, and the schedule of production and auxiliary loads.
02 / Electrical integration
Locate the wind contribution in the existing supply.
Show the proposed connection on the site electrical diagram. A utility-connected installation, a generator-supported supply and an isolated load require different arrangements. Identify the equipment that maintains the supply when wind generation changes or becomes unavailable.
Specify the turbine, controller and converter scope together with the required voltage, frequency and phase arrangement. The wider project must define protection, isolation and the operating relationship with existing generation. Generator parallel operation or third-party storage compatibility should not be assumed.
Define the responsibility
Identify the connection point and the party responsible for overall system integration.
03 / Site constraints
Place equipment within an approved site layout.
The turbine location must work with the operational site, not simply the nearest open space. Provide the project team’s location constraints, classified-area information where applicable, access routes and the positions of existing structures, lines and equipment.
Any installation near hazardous areas requires assessment and approval by the responsible project specialists. This page makes no ATEX, explosion-proof or hazardous-location certification claim. Tower position, electrical equipment location, cabling and service access must be resolved within the approved project design.

Required before configuration
A site layout and the environmental or hazardous-location requirements applicable to each equipment position.

Illustrative load calculation
Assume a measured 20 kW electrical load operating for 6 hours.
20 kW × 6 h
120 kWh of load demand
This is demand during the stated duty period, excluding system losses and other loads. It is not wind energy production, a motor-starting calculation or a measured MARSTON project result.
Evaluate a defined electrical duty.
Lepszy punkt wyjścia
A specified load group, representative wind evidence, an identified connection point and a project team able to approve siting and electrical integration.
Najpierw rozstrzygnij te ograniczenia
A proposal based only on a pumping unit nameplate, an assumption of continuous rated wind output, or a location requiring equipment approvals that have not been established.

Pytania przed określeniem specyfikacji.
Can wind be evaluated just for auxiliary equipment?
Yes. Define the intended auxiliary circuits separately so their demand and continuity requirements can be assessed without assuming they match the main pumping duty.
Does a 20 kW motor require a 20 kW turbine?
Not as a direct selection rule. Electrical input, starting demand, duty cycle, wind availability and the wider supply arrangement all matter.
Is equipment approved for hazardous locations?
No such approval is claimed here. Submit the applicable location classification and documentation requirements before equipment suitability is discussed.
What supply scope is available?
MARSTON can discuss turbines, controllers and converters, with tower supplier coordination. The project must define foundations, installation, electrical integration and maintenance responsibilities.
