Should I order wind turbine spare parts by model name or part revision?

The short answer

Use the equipment identity and the applicable part identification together. A model name alone may cover more than one production or service configuration, while a part number without its application can also be ambiguous. Confirm the replacement against the installed equipment’s records and any authorized changes. Do not infer interchangeability from appearance or assume a newer revision is a direct replacement.

Identify the installed configuration

Start with the turbine or component model, serial identification where available, and the installed part’s identification. Add the relevant drawing, manual revision and modification history. Photographs can help the supplier locate visible differences, but they should support rather than replace the identification record. If a label is missing, record that uncertainty and use the supplier’s approved identification process before placing an order.

Compare the replacement claim

Illustrative case Required clarification
Same part number and revision Confirm intended equipment application
Same number, later revision Check interchangeability and documentation changes
Superseding part number Confirm the authorized replacement relationship
Similar-looking item Do not assume it is an approved substitute

The table is an identification method, not a compatibility chart for any particular MARSTON part.

Keep the service baseline current

Where a replacement includes an adapter, software change or revised procedure, make those items part of the agreed service scope. Update the equipment record after an authorized change so the next spare-parts request starts from the current configuration. Separately confirm quantity, packing, availability and delivery arrangements in the actual offer. This page does not promise universal interchangeability, a fixed spare-parts stock or a particular support period.

Treat a revision as an engineering question

A later item can be better suited to a new configuration without fitting an older installation directly. Ask whether replacement requires companion parts, revised settings or different documentation, and who authorizes those changes. The commercial line should identify the supplied revision and any agreed kit contents. A stock description such as “latest version” leaves an important part of the purchase undefined.
