Small wind / Buyer questions
Purchasing and delivery
Does a quotation remain comparable after the wind equipment configuration changes?
The short answer
After an equipment configuration changes, reconcile the quotation against the new scope before comparing or accepting it. Confirm revised quantities, interfaces, services, exclusions, delivery assumptions and price validity. A still-valid quotation date does not establish that an earlier price includes changes the supplier has not evaluated or expressly incorporated into the offer.
Identify the changed purchasing basis
List the original offered configuration and the engineering changes that followed. Distinguish supplier corrections from buyer-requested scope changes and unresolved alternatives. A revised controller option, delivery split or inspection requirement may affect documents and services as well as hardware. Ask the supplier to mark which items changed and which original conditions remain. This prevents a comparison spreadsheet from combining the old price with the new technical scope as if they were one coherent offer.
Request a reconciled commercial response
Obtain an updated quotation or an agreed change schedule that addresses price, lead time, validity, payment milestones and exclusions as applicable. Ask for a clear statement where an item is unchanged. Do not infer the commercial effect from the apparent size of an engineering change; the actual consequence depends on the order and supplier process. Where contractual rights are disputed, route the issue through authorized commercial representatives and qualified advisers rather than treating the engineering register as a legal determination.
Compare like-for-like final offers
Update the bid matrix and scope index using the reconciled baseline. Remove superseded alternatives from the active comparison while keeping their history. Confirm that inspection, documentation and spare references follow the chosen configuration. The resulting decision should identify what is being purchased and on what assumptions. It is more defensible than selecting a headline price whose technical attachments describe a different package, and it gives the supplier an explicit configuration to manufacture and support.
