Can a keyless locking device be fitted to any hub with the correct bore?
The short answer
No. A keyless locking device creates radial contact pressure, and the surrounding hub must withstand the resulting stresses and deformation. Correct bore diameter only establishes part of the fit. A wind-generator hub needs adequate material, wall geometry and contact conditions for the selected locking system.
Trace pressure through the hub wall
The locking device pushes against the shaft and hub through its designed geometry. A thin or weak hub can deform differently from the assumed support, changing both stress and pressure distribution. Hub outside diameter, width, local steps and material properties therefore matter. A device that fits inside the bore can still be inappropriate for the available surrounding structure.
Check the selected device’s assumptions
Different locking-assembly series use different pressures, centering arrangements and permitted load combinations. Ringfeder offers a separate minimum-hub-diameter calculation and product-specific selection data. Those values cannot be transferred to another device or a different hub material without its maker’s method. A low-pressure description also does not establish suitability for every thin hub; the complete geometry and actual loads remain necessary.
Request a hub-and-shaft selection
Ask for the exact locking-device identity, hub material and outside/inside geometry, shaft construction and simultaneous loads. Require the manufacturer’s assessment of the connected hub as well as the device’s transmissible torque. No MARSTON keyless connection is implied. Do not accept a bore match as a structural release or tighten a device in an unidentified hub to discover whether it holds. The specific decision is whether both mating components provide the pressure-bearing support assumed by the selected locking assembly. For a stepped or locally thin hub, outside diameter at one plane may not describe the controlling pressure-bearing section. Provide the complete contact-region geometry to the locking-device supplier rather than one favorable overall dimension.
