Application integration
Does a CNC machine's feed-hold state make it an interruptible zero-power load?
The short answer
No. Feed hold is a machine state, not an energy-isolation statement. In an applicable CNC configuration, motion can pause while the spindle, controls or other services remain active. Determine what the actual machine continues to do before counting hold periods as zero demand or asking an energy controller to remove supply.
Use the actual machine-state definition
Request the operator manual and installed option list. Haas provides an example in which feed hold stops axis feed while the spindle continues. That behavior should not be generalized to every machine or control mode. Distinguish feed hold from program end, emergency stop, ready and approved shutdown; similar-looking stopped motion can conceal different electrical and process states.
Measure the retained services
Identify spindle, coolant, hydraulics, lubrication, extraction and control loads that actually remain required in each accepted state. Some may be separately supplied and others already included in the main machine meter. A machine drawing less power in hold is not necessarily ready for an arbitrary interruption. Holding or thermal requirements can continue with no cutting taking place.
Tag the actual control mode during measurement. A paused automatic program, a ready machine and an operator-controlled manual state need not retain the same spindle and auxiliary functions or permitted restart behavior.
Specify the useful scheduling opportunity
Ask the machine owner whether production can wait before a cycle begins or whether a supported hold can occur during it. Include recovery, material condition and readiness requirements without proposing a CNC operating procedure. Give the wind integrator the accepted state/input profile and supply characteristics. A turbine can contribute energy while an existing source maintains machine service. No MARSTON CNC interface is established by a feed-hold example, and matching average machine demand to wind output does not prove safe stopping, restart or isolation.
