Can wind generation suit non-urgent rainwater transfer between tanks?

The short answer

Non-urgent transfer between tanks can be a flexible electricity use when water is available, receiving storage has room and the required delivery deadline allows delay. That flexibility may improve wind use, but it does not establish direct electrical compatibility or remove the need for a water and pump-duty assessment.

Define the water movement and deadline

Record source availability, receiving capacity, transfer volume, total head and required completion time. Distinguish a convenience transfer from a supply serving an essential use. A tank shown as large on a drawing may have little usable operating volume after reserves and level limits.

Include seasonal rainfall and water demand. A windy period cannot transfer water that has not been collected, and a full receiving tank cannot accept more useful volume.

Compare feasible pumping windows

Use the pump's actual power and flow characteristics at the duty point, together with allowed starts and control requirements. Model when pumping can occur within the deadline and compare those windows with supported wind generation.

Do not assume the pump can follow every fluctuation in turbine output. The controller, converter, level controls and any other supply must form a reviewed system. Energy scheduling and electrical interface suitability are separate questions.

Compare the complete service options

Assess wind against alternatives such as a different pumping schedule, gravity arrangements where feasible or another supply source. Include equipment, maintenance and any lost water-transfer opportunity in the comparison. Flexible demand does not automatically justify a turbine at a weak-wind site.

The enquiry should include the water balance, pump duty, storage limits and delivery window. This lets the integrator estimate useful wind contribution without promising a particular generation yield, direct connection or storage substitution that has not been established for the project.
