How should a marina assess wind generation for intermittent shore-power demand?

The short answer

Marina shore-power demand should be assessed from actual occupied-berth use and shared site loads, not from the sum of outlet ratings. Occupancy, vessel behaviour and seasonal operation can create substantial variation. Wind value depends on coincident useful demand and the actual electrical and commercial boundaries.

Define who consumes and who pays

Identify the connection and metering arrangement, shared services and the party receiving any avoided cost or export revenue. A turbine serving the marina's common supply does not automatically offset electricity billed through every separate berth arrangement across the facility.

Use the actual site documents and qualified electrical review. Do not infer a right to redistribute electricity or change customer billing from a generic renewable-energy proposal.

Build an occupancy-linked load profile

Collect interval demand, occupied berths and relevant seasonal patterns where available. Separate connection capacity from measured simultaneous demand. Include essential shared loads and any practical limits on changing their schedules.

Compare a supported wind-generation series with that profile. A windy off-season can produce less useful value than a lower annual resource with better demand coincidence. Keep surplus treatment and any third-party storage assumptions explicit.

Include coastal operation and maintenance

Review feasible siting, public access, service arrangements and the environmental evidence needed for the offered equipment. A coastal location does not establish corrosion suitability, safe public layout or useful wind exposure at the proposed rotor.

The enquiry should include the electrical boundary, demand and occupancy evidence, site plan and environmental description. This lets the integrator assess the actual project without claiming every berth rating as useful demand or promising generation, compatibility or revenue that the site evidence has not established.
