Wind Turbine Yaw & Control Auxiliary Power Planning
Auxiliary power supports specified turbine functions rather than the project’s main useful-power output. Identify the actual control and actuator loads, their supply sources and the behaviour required when a source is unavailable.
Review auxiliary duties as their own supply requirement.
Build a function-by-function load and source record, then agree the operating cases and any requested backup scope.
01 / Load inventory
List the functions that need supplied power.
Start with the selected turbine package and identify its specified electrical consumers.
Start with the selected turbine package and identify its specified electrical consumers. Review the controller, yaw drive, brake-actuation equipment and any agreed monitoring functions where applicable. Record each device’s actual supply requirements and reference the supplier’s specification.
The current FD14-50KW uses electric-motor yaw and an electric linear actuator for its compact brake-pressure pump. Those mechanism descriptions do not state their supply voltage, current or source. They also do not establish the same auxiliary arrangement on another model.
02 / Duty definition
Separate continuous demand from intermittent activity.
A continuously powered controller and an intermittently actuated device can impose different duties.
A continuously powered controller and an intermittently actuated device can impose different duties. Obtain the rated running conditions and relevant short-duration demands for the actual devices. Record when functions can coincide rather than add catalogue values without an operating assumption.
For a hypothetical load schedule, calculate energy by summing each stated power multiplied by its operating duration. That arithmetic only describes the declared schedule; it cannot establish actuator duty, backup size or the turbine’s real auxiliary consumption without model-specific inputs.
03 / Source mapping
Trace the source of every required supply.
Identify where each auxiliary circuit obtains power in the actual design and which device conditions support it.
Identify where each auxiliary circuit obtains power in the actual design and which device conditions support it. State whether an external supply is required and who provides it. Keep auxiliary connections separate from generator input and project converter output in the interface record.
Ask how the arrangement behaves before normal generation is available and when the main output connection is unavailable. Electric yaw does not mean the rotor automatically supplies every control function at every operating condition. Use the interface guide to retain these source boundaries.
04 / Interruption cases
Define required behaviour without assuming backup.
The project review should identify the relevant supply-interruption cases and the requested outcome for each function.
The project review should identify the relevant supply-interruption cases and the requested outcome for each function. Record which information remains available, which function changes state and who defines the accepted response. Do not label the complete system fail-safe from a power-supply name.
This page does not prescribe brake application, restart, switching or backup operation. Those decisions require the actual control design and applicable operating instructions. A requested behaviour is a design requirement until the supplied configuration and verification evidence establish it.
05 / Backup scope
Treat stored auxiliary energy as an optional design question.
If backup is proposed, distinguish bridging a short interruption from supplying selected functions for a defined duration.
If backup is proposed, distinguish bridging a short interruption from supplying selected functions for a defined duration. State the loads to be supported, allowable supply conditions and required time, then ask the responsible designer to select and assess the arrangement.
Industrial UPS and buffer products illustrate that power source, energy storage and supported load are separate selection questions. No such device or capability is assumed in a MARSTON package. Third-party backup compatibility and installation responsibilities require explicit agreement; MARSTON does not claim own-brand storage.
06 / Acceptance records
Keep load data and function evidence with the package.
Request a supply description, auxiliary load schedule and applicable operating-case information with the technical proposal.
Request a supply description, auxiliary load schedule and applicable operating-case information with the technical proposal. The acceptance review should identify what records establish the agreed behaviour, using the manufacturer’s instructions and the authorised project plan.
For an enquiry, send the exact turbine and controller identities, available external supplies and the continuity requirement the project wants reviewed. Retain unresolved ratings and backup questions. This page promises no autonomous yaw capability, standard control voltage, remote function or power-failure operating guarantee.

Engineering questions.
Is auxiliary power the turbine’s main output?
No. It supports specified control and actuator functions and needs its own load and source definition.
Does electric yaw mean it works without an external supply?
No supply arrangement is assumed. Confirm the source and operating conditions for the actual package.
Do all functions need the same control voltage?
The actual device specifications must define their supplies. This guide gives no common voltage.
Is battery backup included with every turbine?
No backup inclusion is claimed. Define any requested support requirement and confirm the supplied scope.
Does a UPS automatically make the turbine fail-safe?
No. The complete control design, dependencies and applicable evidence must establish the agreed interruption behaviour.
What should I provide for an auxiliary-power review?
Device identities, available supplies, actual load information, relevant interruption cases and the continuity functions you need assessed.
