Wind Project Delivery Terms & Installation Responsibilities

A delivery term helps define a goods transaction, but it does not replace the complete wind project scope. Keep the selected rule, edition and named place together. Then identify the separate responsibilities for site preparation, installation and commissioning in the actual agreement.

A delivery location is not an installation commitment.

Read transport allocation and project execution as connected but distinct records, without interpreting an abbreviation as a complete contract.

01 / Rule identity

Use the exact agreed reference.

ICC publishes Incoterms rules describing allocations of costs, risks and obligations between buyer and seller in goods transactions.

ICC publishes Incoterms rules describing allocations of costs, risks and obligations between buyer and seller in goods transactions. Its public Incoterms 2020 overview identifies the edition and explains why selecting the appropriate rule matters. This guide uses that scope without reproducing the detailed rules.

Record the full rule reference, edition and named place as stated in the proposal. Avoid storing only a three-letter abbreviation. An earlier offer or another shipment may use a different arrangement; do not import its allocation into the current transaction.

02 / Named place

Describe a real handoff location.

The named point may need more precision than a city or country.

The named point may need more precision than a city or country. Ask for the agreed facility, terminal or other receiving location and identify the relevant transport leg. Keep any draft destination visibly different from the place in the accepted agreement.

An original review record can contain rule_reference, named_place, receiving_contact and onward_transport_owner. These fields organise the transaction for project discussion; they are not a legal interpretation of when any particular rule transfers risk or responsibility.

03 / Transport allocation

Keep separate duties from merging into “shipping”.

Ask which party arranges and pays for each transport leg and which documents establish that allocation.

Ask which party arranges and pays for each transport leg and which documents establish that allocation. Identify the treatment of unloading, onward movement and insurance in the actual arrangement. An all-in freight amount should still have a defined endpoint and exclusions.

Where the rule and a separate logistics statement seem inconsistent, flag the question for the contracting parties and their advisers. Do not resolve it by assuming the more convenient interpretation. This page recommends no specific trade term or insurance level.

04 / Site readiness

Retain installation duties outside the shorthand.

Equipment receipt, site access, storage arrangements and construction readiness are different project conditions.

Equipment receipt, site access, storage arrangements and construction readiness are different project conditions. Assign responsibility for foundations, tower installation, electrical work and commissioning separately. A goods-delivery abbreviation should not stand in for those deliverables.

Use the supply-boundary guide to name the actual local designers and contractors. Delivery to a project area does not establish MARSTON installation services, import clearance services or readiness to energise equipment.

05 / Document alignment

Keep the commercial and physical shipment consistent.

Check that quotation, accepted order and shipment records refer to the same delivery arrangement and equipment identities.

Check that quotation, accepted order and shipment records refer to the same delivery arrangement and equipment identities. If the receiving point changes, identify which affected documents and logistics assumptions require revision. Keep the previous record so the change remains traceable.

Ask the buyer and appropriate freight or trade specialists to confirm actual transaction requirements. This guide supplies no country-specific import rules, tax treatment, HS classification or clearance guarantee. Those matters cannot be established from a turbine model or delivery abbreviation.

06 / Project milestones

Do not merge goods delivery with acceptance.

Define receipt, installation completion and commissioning acceptance as distinct milestones where the project uses them.

Define receipt, installation completion and commissioning acceptance as distinct milestones where the project uses them. Identify the evidence and party for each. A transport handoff can occur before the site has the information and personnel needed for installation.

For an enquiry, provide the intended delivery point and the requested supply boundary, then resolve the precise allocation in the actual offer. Keep payment, installation and acceptance arrangements explicit rather than relying on the Incoterms reference to define the entire project.

Engineering questions.

Does an Incoterms reference describe the whole wind project?

No. Retain equipment, installation, payment and acceptance arrangements in the actual scope.

Why record the edition?

It identifies which published rule set the parties have referenced.

Is naming only the destination country sufficient?

Ask for the specific agreed place and relevant handoff point.

Does delivery to site include commissioning?

Not unless the actual scope establishes that separate duty.

Can this guide determine import taxes or HS codes?

No. Confirm the transaction with appropriate specialists and actual destination requirements.

Who resolves an inconsistent delivery description?

The contracting parties and their relevant advisers should clarify the agreement.

Technical enquiry

Bring your project information to the discussion.

A delivery term helps define a goods transaction, but it does not replace the complete wind project scope. Share the available information and the equipment scope you want reviewed in a technical quotation.
