Wind Turbine Freight: Package Dimensions & Mass Inputs

A rotor diameter or turbine rated power cannot provide a freight quotation. Transport planning needs the actual packed shipment, including how components are distributed among packages. Separate equipment dimensions from package dimensions and verified data from preliminary estimates.

Quote the shipment that will move.

Package identity, external dimensions and gross mass describe a different object from the assembled turbine.

01 / Package identity

Count packages and identify their contents.

Assign each crate, pallet or other package a unique mark.

Assign each crate, pallet or other package a unique mark. Map its contents to the order items and state whether quantities are complete. A single turbine assembly can travel as multiple packages; a controller and converter may be packed separately or included in another documented package.

Trade.gov describes a packing list as a package-level account of goods, weights and measurements. Use that general distinction without treating its US export context as a universal destination requirement. Actual shipment requirements belong to the buyer and relevant transport specialists.

02 / Dimensions

Use external packed dimensions with units.

Retain length, width and height for each package, measurement units, data status and the packaging revision.

Retain length, width and height for each package, measurement units, data status and the packaging revision. The assembled rotor diameter is not the length of a blade crate. Provisional dimensions must remain provisional until the actual packaging configuration is confirmed.

Hypothetical geometry only: one rectangular package measuring 2 m × 1 m × 0.5 m has a geometric volume of 1 m³. That arithmetic is not a MARSTON crate size, billable freight quantity, stacking permission or confirmation that the package fits a selected transport mode.

03 / Mass definitions

Keep net contents and packed gross mass distinct.

Record net equipment mass and gross packed mass per package, with the source and date.

Record net equipment mass and gross packed mass per package, with the source and date. Packaging and included accessories affect the gross figure. Reconcile the package totals with the shipment summary rather than assigning the whole order mass to every crate.

Do not derive shipping mass from rated kW or another model’s specification. No standard crate dimensions or turbine shipping weights are confirmed in this guide. Use the actual supplier packing information and identify unresolved values before seeking a firm transport offer.

04 / Route context

State origin, destination and practical restrictions.

Define the collection and receiving points, intended transport stages and required delivery window.

Define the collection and receiving points, intended transport stages and required delivery window. Provide known access constraints to the freight provider for assessment. A port-to-port offer and a site-delivered offer should not be compared as if they cover the same movement.

Retain the stated package handling and storage limitations for the provider’s review without inventing stacking, lifting or weather tolerances. Transport specialists should establish applicable handling and route requirements. This page gives no rigging procedure or permission to move equipment in a particular way.

05 / Freight response

Preserve the provider’s pricing basis and exclusions.

When a quotation arrives, retain the route, included legs, package data used, validity and stated exclusions.

When a quotation arrives, retain the route, included legs, package data used, validity and stated exclusions. If dimensions or package count change, ask which parts of the offer need reassessment. A freight amount detached from its assumptions is difficult to compare.

Keep clearance, insurance and onward site transport visible where they are outside the quoted scope. Do not convert geometric volume into a charge using an invented freight rate. Obtain an actual provider response for the defined shipment and movement.

06 / Shipment release

Resolve changes before treating data as final.

Compare the final package record with the accepted equipment list and latest logistics offer.

Compare the final package record with the accepted equipment list and latest logistics offer. Record changed contents, dimensions or mass under their package identities. Use the invoice and packing-list review to retain consistent item references.

For a MARSTON enquiry, request packaging information for the specified turbine and electrical equipment rather than a generic shipping estimate. Tower supply may involve a separate supplier and shipment. No freight rate, delivery duration or complete logistics service is promised here.

Engineering questions.

Can rotor diameter determine crate size?

No. Obtain the actual component packing arrangement and external package dimensions.

Are net and gross mass interchangeable?

No. Gross mass includes the packed shipment, while net mass describes its stated contents.

Does geometric volume equal charged freight volume?

Not necessarily. The provider’s actual transport and pricing basis must be established.

Does this page provide MARSTON shipping weights?

No. Use configuration-specific confirmed packing information.

Can one freight quote cover an added tower automatically?

No. Confirm whether the tower is in the shipment and within the quoted data.

What should change if the package plan changes?

Update the identified packages and obtain reassessment of affected logistics assumptions.

Bring your project information to the discussion.

A rotor diameter or turbine rated power cannot provide a freight quotation. Share the available information and the equipment scope you want reviewed in a technical quotation.
