Wind Power Converter Supply: Define the Purchase Boundary
MARSTON can discuss power-conversion equipment separately from a complete wind turbine. Define the generator-side input, intended electrical destination and existing control arrangement first, then request a proposal that identifies the actual converter and the equipment or local work outside its supply boundary.
Give the converter enquiry two clearly defined sides.
The input-source requirements and delivered-output requirements are different records. Neither the turbine’s rated kW nor the site’s voltage alone establishes a suitable converter.
01 / Supply purpose
Identify the device being purchased and the project context.
State whether the enquiry concerns a new wind project, replacement equipment or integration with a customer-supplied turbine.
State whether the enquiry concerns a new wind project, replacement equipment or integration with a customer-supplied turbine. Provide the actual generator, existing controller and converter identities with their available revisions. Include the reason for replacement where a responsible assessment exists.
Do not treat a generic inverter, rectifier and wind converter as interchangeable names for the same deliverable. Ask which device and functions the supplier proposes for the described source and destination. Separate supply is a scope to discuss, not a claim that any converter is stocked for every rating.
02 / Input dossier
Provide generator information at the correct boundary.
Supply the available generator electrical characteristics and connection documents, identifying the conditions and location of each value.
Supply the available generator electrical characteristics and connection documents, identifying the conditions and location of each value. Distinguish open-circuit from loaded data where reported, and identify whether a proposed input is AC, an existing DC interface or another documented arrangement.
The generator-data guide helps avoid presenting grid-side output voltage as a generator rating. A converter enquiry should retain missing input information as a gap. A turbine kW label cannot fill in voltage, current, speed or control requirements that have not been established.
03 / Output dossier
Describe the destination and requested service.
For a grid proposal, attach the actual connection ratings and requirements obtained for the project.
For a grid proposal, attach the actual connection ratings and requirements obtained for the project. For independent supply or a third-party storage interface, identify the connected equipment and the requested operating duties. State who establishes the electrical reference and manages any shortfall or surplus.
DOE’s system-connection explanation provides general context for different wind applications. It does not approve a particular MARSTON topology. No off-grid, grid-forming, battery-charging or export-control function should be assumed without the actual proposed-device evidence.
04 / Control ownership
Make converter and turbine-control duties explicit.
Identify the existing or proposed controller and which requests, states and permissions it must exchange with the conversion equipment.
Identify the existing or proposed controller and which requests, states and permissions it must exchange with the conversion equipment. List any MPPT or load-management functions being requested and the device expected to provide them. Agree what happens to the proposal if a required interface is unavailable.
Use a source-and-destination interface matrix with device identity, signal meaning and responsible reviewer. Do not infer compatibility from matching connectors or a network port. Keep the controller supply separate where both devices are being purchased.
05 / Commercial scope
State what accompanies the converter.
Ask the quotation to list device identity and version, included documentation, agreed configuration information and other items supplied.
Ask the quotation to list device identity and version, included documentation, agreed configuration information and other items supplied. Identify enclosures, associated devices, local cabling, installation, connection review and third-party integration as included, excluded or conditional rather than assuming one complete package.
Provide ambient and installation conditions that the equipment review requires. Request applicable ratings, environmental evidence, quantities, availability, delivery and support terms from the actual proposal. This page offers no standard voltage range, efficiency, certificate, inventory or delivery-time claim.
06 / Acceptance scope
Keep delivery evidence separate from site approval.
Agree the records and review criteria needed for the quoted device and its interfaces.
Agree the records and review criteria needed for the quoted device and its interfaces. Identify who verifies the complete installation against the project requirements. A supplied converter document may support that work without establishing utility acceptance or performance of every connected device.
Send MARSTON the input and output dossiers, controller information, equipment schedule and requested delivery boundary. The acceptance-planning guide helps distinguish device-level and installed-system evidence. No commissioning sequence, universal compatibility or automatic approval is supplied here.

Engineering questions.
Can converters be discussed separately from turbines?
Yes. Define the generator-side source, intended output, existing control equipment and requested supply boundary.
Is the site voltage enough to request the right device?
It identifies only part of the output requirement. Input characteristics, control duties and operating conditions also need review.
Does a wind converter necessarily provide an independent supply?
No universal function is claimed. Establish the proposed device’s duties and the equipment forming or supporting the supply.
Are rectifiers, controllers and converters interchangeable?
They describe functions or devices that need an explicit scope. Identify what the proposed equipment performs and what remains elsewhere.
Can the converter accept any third-party battery?
The actual topology, electrical ranges, controls and third-party documentation need compatibility review. No universal connection is assumed.
Does converter delivery guarantee grid approval?
Approval concerns the actual project and operator requirements. Retain device evidence and site-acceptance decisions separately.
